13 Best & Worst Movies From 2014 Oscar Nominees

2. Sandra Bullock

Best: Speed (1994) The Blind Side would be a more obvious choice perhaps, but Speed launched Bullock's star, and is an all too rare example of a supposedly lesser genre movie spawning a great performance. Because it comes in an action flick, people tend to overlook how good Bullock was alongside Keanu Reeves and a particularly unhinged Dennis Hopper. She's no hopeless damsel in distress, standing almost shoulder to shoulder with Reeves (aside from his difficult to accept professional skills) and her confidence belies the fact that she'd only made a handful of films beforehand. Worst: All About Steve (2009) So bad it deserves mention twice. All About Steve is not only an awful movie, but it's also a perfect example of an actor forgetting everything that has made them a Hollywood stalwart, and seemingly actively attempting to destroy her image. All About Steve is like sitting on an extended, hot bus journey on a particularly smelly vessel with the most annoying person imaginable, who insists on telling you a story they think is both interesting and hilarious. Impressively, Bullock is probably the Oscar nominee with the most turkeys to her name, having made Premonition and Speed 2: Cruise Control as well as this garbage, so it should perhaps be even more impressive that she remains considerable as an Oscar-worthy talent.
