5. Will The Thunderbolts Play Some Part?

Captain America Civil War General Ross
Marvel Studios

If you think that General Thunderbolt Ross took what happened at the end of Civil War with grace and a clear head, you don't know the character very well. He might have claimed to be a new man in the wake of his near-fatal heart-attack, but he still burns with a fierce anti-superhero fire since the day the Hulk stole his daughter (not that it's personal or anything). And he will have his vengeance.

You have to suspect that government policy on unregistered heroes will now be tightened even further, escalating Civil War rather than ending it with Ross leading efforts to uncover hidden heroes and the underground Avengers. Doesn't that all sound like the perfect opportunity for Marvel to combine Civil War: Hero Hunters and the Marvel Now! rebrand of the Thunderbolts and introduce them as Ross' instrument of detection?

That would just be pure conjecture if Frank Grillo hadn't recently confirmed that he had been approached to bring Crossbones back - the villain, of course, being a member of the team in one incarnation. It all fits, and would definitely add an intriguing secondary plot to Infinity War.
