13. John Connor Will Die & Matt Smith Is The New Protagonist - Terminator: Genisys

The Theory: The fifth Terminator movie is pitching itself as a quasi-reboot of the franchise, so what better opportunity to kill off the current mainstay John Connor (Jason Clarke), and replace him with a new protagonist? And what's the betting that it's going to be Matt Smith's character, who is confirmed to be appearing in every movie in this new trilogy of Terminator films? Why It Could Be True: It would certainly explain why the movie is making such a pains to differentiate itself from the previous movies in an alternate timeline while still retaining the core iconic elements. Plus, Matt Smith has the only major character part that hasn't yet been named, causing some to suspect that, in this timeline, he could be John Connor's brother... somehow, and take up the mantle for a new generation without the baggage associated with the John Connor name. Why It's Probably Not: It's probably too ballsy an idea to kill off John given how integral he is to the franchise as a whole, and Smith doesn't exactly have the "look" of a tough, likeable leading man, so it'd be a hard sell.
