As already qualified, Christopher Nolan likes to throw in some left-field choices when it comes to deciding who he wants to cast alongside Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy, and none are more strange than One Direction singer Harry Styles' part in Dunkirk.

Thus far, his acting experience has been limited to playing himself in music videos (and on iCarly), and to think he's standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the likes of Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, Hardy and Murphy is just lunacy. Sure, everyone deserves a first chance, but is that really the company he deserves to start in?

He's a great rock star presence (with shades of Mick Jagger), but you have to think he's going to be extremely distracting more than anything.

Will It Work?

The jury is firmly out: if there's a director capable of getting something out of Styles, it's probably Nolan, but the track record of pop stars turning up in films (aside from Justin Timberlake) is
