9. Jake Lawson - Geostorm

Geostorm looks legitimately batsh*t crazy, which should make for an interesting popcorn movie viewing experience when it comes out (more than 18 months after it was initially supposed to come out) and it's bound to have just as much dumb story-line as it does muscular flashy effects.

It's essentially a disaster movie with a mysterious Bond villain type behind it (nailed on to be main character Jake's brother Max), with an Armageddon feel as a wholly untrustworthy astronaut is the man charged with saving the planet. He has a daughter, who will no doubt come into play when he's faced with some sort of final gambit situation and chooses to sacrifice himself to save her and the world for her.

It almost writes itself.
