13 Crazy Movie Pitches That Would Have Ruined 2015

5. The Magnificent Seven Remake

The Pitch: Classic 1960 western The Magnificent Seven (which was itself a remake of Kurosawa's 1954 classic Seven Samurai) is to receive another remake of its own with Denzel Washington and (possibly) Chris Pratt starring. What Happened?: The movie has been floating around for four years now, with True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto mostly recently writing a script for Antoine Fuqua to direct. Given that Tom Cruise was originally set to star with Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman, and Matt Damon in supporting roles, this could easily be another project that just never gets off the ground. Despite MGM's keenness to get the film shooting early this year, it's certainly going nowhere anytime soon, given that Fuqua is deep in post-production on boxing drama Southpaw and still finishing up a documentary about Suge Knight. With so many moving parts, there's every chance this one could linger around for years and years while just petering out. Besides, given how the original movie is a solid gold classic and one of the greatest remakes of all time, why bother messing with greatness? It's just going to p*** people off.
