13 Creepy Unsolved Mysteries That Need To Be Turned Into Movies
4. Disappearance Of Frederick Valentich
Disappearing planes are an obsession of our society, mostly because when we get on a metal box that flies through the sky our only goal is to land safely somewhere else. In October of 1978, that didn’t happen with pilot Frederick Valentich, who left Melbourne, Australia en route to King’s Island some 125 miles away.
It was mid-flight when Valentich contacted air traffic control and asked if they had knowledge of other aircraft in his vicinity. They said they didn’t and Valentich assured them that he saw an object flying near him. When asked if it was an aircraft, he said only that it was shaped like a cigar with lights on it, and his final words were “it is not an aircraft.”
It was seven minutes later that Valentich’s plane lost radio contact and he was never heard from again - not even to get vindication from the fact that several sightings of a UFO were reported in the area that same day.
How Would The Movie Look?
There’s been countless alien-encounter films, some of which even claim to be based on true stories. But the story of Frederick Valentich is ripe for Hollywood, because even if you take out the alien aspect you still have the story of a man who flew a plane into thin air and was never seen again.
With a capable actor at the helm, say Russell Crowe, the time inside the cockpit of the plane as Valentich tries to figure out what’s happening could be among the most tense moments ever put to film. Combine that with the scenes on the ground and the stories of UFO sightings and you have a conspiracy thriller unlike any other.
