13 Disappointing Recent Films That Should've Been Great

What Was Expected

A fascinating story, a talented director, a great cast and a terrific marketing campaign. What could possibly go wrong?

What We Actually Got

Alas, High-Rise is really, really bad. A good portion of the film is genuinely unwatchable.

This is a film which doesn't seem to have any sort of plot at all, and the social commentary its supposed to have just comes down to lots of visually stunning but utterly incoherent imagery.

It's a story is so badly told it's one of the most confusing movies of recent times. Incoherently told and dramatically lifeless, this film largely feels like a painful, intolerable nightmare you'll want to wake up from immediately.

The thing which makes this so infuriating is how great it looked. Director Ben Wheatley's Kill List was marvellous and for a small British film this had a great cast. The trailers also made the film look great, but it ended up being such a pretentious and annoying mess.

Overall, this is a crushing disappointment and yet another case of lots of talented people being brought together and then being given nothing to do whatsoever.
