13 Dumbest Movie Plot Twists Of 2018
7. Will Scarlet Becomes The New Sheriff - Robin Hood
The new Robin Hood movie seems practically embarrassed of the fact it's a Robin Hood movie, as evidenced by the anachronistic clothing choices, faux-gritty aesthetic and the odd decision to have Will Scarlet (Jamie Dornan) go by the name Will Tillman.
Tillman is an aspiring politician and Marian's (Eve Hewson) lover, though inevitably, he finds himself jilted when Marian decides she prefers Robin (Taron Egerton).
After witnessing the pair making out in the film's climax, he's wounded by an explosion, giving him a scarred face in a moment that undeniably invokes The Dark Knight's Two-Face.
The big reveal, though, is that with the Sheriff of Nottingham (Ben Mendelsohn) dead by the end of the film, the Cardinal (a slumming F. Murray Abraham) appoints Will to be the new Sheriff, and he sets his sights on bringing Robin and his men to "justice."
On one hand you can applaud the attempt to subvert expectations by making Will a villain, but on the other it just felt like a change made for no other reason than easy, sequel-baiting shock value.
