7. Lando Saves The Day

Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) was conspicuous by his absence in The Last Jedi, with Johnson again stating that he tried to fit him into the story, but simply couldn't find a place.

With Episode IX serving as the final handing-off of Star Wars from one generation to the next, Lando absolutely needs to make an appearance.

If Leia's funeral does indeed happen, it'd be the perfect opportunity for Lando to show up and pay respect to his fallen comrades. He can then disappear for most of the movie, before swooping back in to provide a pivotal airborne assist at the eleventh hour.

There's no need to kill Lando off just for the sake of it, but he can get a well-earned retirement after one final act of heroism that elevates the stature of his character even more.
