4. I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
It's Based On The Book... "I Know What You Did Last Summer" By Lois Duncan
I Know What You Did Last Summer isn't the sort of movie you'd expected to have come from a novel, especially one that was published 25 years before the movie was even made. You'll know
Summer as a relatively naff "teen slasher" movie, though it's gone on to become a cult classic of sorts for people who like movies where obnoxious teenagers are made to pay for years of careless hedonism. The original novel, written by prolific children's author Lois Duncan, was aimed towards the young adult market when it was published in the '70s. In real life (and on a completely unrelated note), Duncan's daughter, Kait, was murdered under suspicious circumstances, which is both horrible and interesting. Don't say I never give you intriguing tidbits to chew over, hm?
How Close It It To The Book? The premise is exactly the same, though the movie takes certain liberties with the characters and factors in a whole host of gory moments that were merely implied in the novel. The movie is also far sexier, because it has Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar in it, and in the book you had to use your "imagination." Bah.
