6. Scarface (1986)
It's Based On The Book... "Scarface" By Armitage Trial First off, you've got to know that Brian De Palma's
Scarface is a sort of loose remake of the 1932 movie
Scarface, as directed by Howard Hawks. Hawks' version was, in fact, based on a little-known novel called "Scarface" by somebody named Armitage Trail, a crime writer who died unexpectedly when he was 28, though he managed to get his novel about the rise of Al Capone into publication beforehand. Did Al Capone kill him? Almost definitely not. Is that more fun to imagine? I don't know. Anyhow: Brian De Palma's awesome/cheesy '80s movie starring Al Pacino is - technically - based on Trial's novel through association with Hawks' adaptation alone.
How Close Is It To The Book? Completely different stories set at completely different times. There's no "Push It To The Limit," either, which means that the original book is automatically an inferior product.
