13 Gloriously Hammy Performances In Comic Book Movies

8. Anthony Hopkins (Thor)

2011€™s Thor was never going to be subtle. Directed by one of Hollywood€™s most notoriously hammy actors, Kenneth Branagh, and drawing inspiration from the often gleefully camp Thor comics, it only needed an over-the-top performance to complete the comic book adaptation trinity. Chris Hemsworth does give it his best shot and makes his way through the film with the enthusiasm of a Labrador puppy, but he€™s no match for Anthony Hopkins, whose Odin is truly the King of Ham. Even when Hemsworth musters his greatest bellow and pouts like a beefier Zoolander, Hopkins responds by delivering his overwritten lines with all the grandeur of Lear. At one point words apparently fail to muster enough emotion for him and he simply unleashes a guttural growl towards Tom Hiddleston, who steps back in quite possibly genuinely fear. Rumour has it that the Odinsleep was the only way to preserve the scenery for the duration of filming.
