13 Gloriously Hammy Performances In Comic Book Movies

7. J. K. Simmons (The Spider-Man Trilogy)

There€™s a reason that comic book fans pick over castings rumours about supporting roles in as much detail as those concerning the protagonists. Superheroes who€™ve been around for decades have acquired supporting casts which are as famous and as integral to their stories as they are themselves, and it€™s gratifying when the supporting players are given the attention they deserve. Maybe the general public hadn€™t heard of J. Jonah Jameson prior to Sam Raimi€™s Spider-Man trilogy, but J. K. Simmons has made him one of the most memorable parts of Spidey€™s cinematic universe. Simmons remains one of the most perfectly cast actors in any comic book adaptation. His Jameson is just the right combination of misguided, paranoid and unquestionably dedicated to the job, with an uncanny knack for reading the audience€™s mind: €œGuy named Otto Octavius winds up with eight limbs. What are the odds?€ He€™s also hamming it up spectacularly in every scene; the spittle is almost palpable through the screen whenever he shrieks at an employee, but it€™s impossible to imagine anyone surpassing Simmons in the role.
