13 Horror Remakes That Nobody Really Wanted

7. The Last House On The Left (2009)

Wes Craven's 1972 breakthrough movie is one of the most notorious exploitation films ever made, and this notoriety lingers on even 44 years later. It's also very much a film of its time, arguably more effective as a reflection of American anxieties at the dawn of the '70s than as simple horror entertainment. When the Last House on the Left remake arrived in 2009, there were naturally concerns that it couldn't possibly repeat the grim nastiness of the original, even with Craven himself on board as producer. Still, it was well received by some, and did boast some real talent with the likes of Garrett Dilahunt and Aaron Paul. Even so, given how far cinematic representations of violence have come over the years, the remake could never hope to have the same impact. Much the same can of course be said of the remakes of I Spit On Your Grave and Straw Dogs.
