13 Horror Remakes That Nobody Really Wanted

6. Carrie (2013)

The well-publicised financial difficulty that has long plagued MGM is, by all accounts, been the key reason the studio have remade many of their most marketable titles (including Robocop and Red Dawn) in recent years. It was surely inevitable, then, that they would get around to remaking Brian De Palma's well-loved take on Stephen King's first novel. Expectations were raised somewhat by the calibre of talent involved, with director Kimberly Pierce (Boys Don't Cry), and a cast topped by Chloe Moretz (yes, her again) following on from Sissy Spacek in the title role as the troubled, telekinetic teen, and Julianne Moore filling Piper Laurie's presumably-too-tight shoes as her fanatical puritan mother. But ultimately, nothing could keep it from feeling like an unnecessary retread of a film which still works today. Of course, it should be noted this is not the only time Carrie has been remade: another hugely talented actress, Angela Bettis, took on the title role in a 2002 TV movie, initially intended to lead to a series.

Ben Bussey hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
