13 Horror Remakes That Nobody Really Wanted

8. Let Me In (2010)

Another instance of an acclaimed contemporary foreign language horror film being remade for no discernible reason other than the fact that it wasn't in English. The publicity on this US take on Let The Right One In argued the film was a fresh adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist's novel rather than Tomas Alfredson's 2008 Swedish film, but it still felt a hollow, cynical move. Even so, Matt Reeves' movie was met with a largely favourable response, thanks in no small part to its excellent cast including Chloe Moretz as the forever young vampire, Kodi Smit-McPhee as the disaffected 12 year old boy, and Richard Jenkins as the vampire's adult familiar. Still, while Let Me In may be very well-made, one has to question what was so wrong with Alfredson's film, other than being troublesome for lazier English-speaking audiences who for some reason have difficulty with subtitles.
