13 Huge Mistakes That Are Killing The MCU

11. Death Still Means Nothing

Yes, death still means absolutely nothing in this franchise.

The Infinity Saga suffered a little from its unwillingness to kill any major characters off, and whenever it seemed to - such as with Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) or Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) - it was usually just a fake-out. Still, the issue regarding fake-out deaths wasn't too prevalent throughout the Infinity Saga, looking back on it, and the resurrection of those who died in the Snap worked very well too.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Phase 4, which has absolutely doubled down on this problem by, in one way or another, bringing back many characters who'd previously died (Black Widow being the worst example of this) and thus undermining the emotional impact of their departures.

Furthermore, the multiverse films and shows imply that there are a million variants for all the characters, so another version of a dead character could pop up at any moment.

Low stakes have always been an issue in the MCU but thanks to the franchise's mishandling of character deaths, the stakes have never been lower then they are right now.

And sure, death usually means nothing in the Marvel comics too but that's absolutely no excuse. An adaptation should be seen as an opportunity to fix any source material mistakes, not double down on them.

If they ever undo Tony Stark's death in Endgame, we riot.
