13 Huge Mistakes That Are Killing The MCU

10. They Keeping Picking The Wrong Directors

This one isn't a new problem, but it's one that is still definitely in evidence.

Alright, to be fair, some of the recent MCU products have been very well-directed. Sam Raimi and Taika Waititi directed Doctor Strange 2 and Thor: Love and Thunder very well indeed (regardless of the quality of those films overall) and Ms. Marvel was full of great visuals, but many of the other films and shows from the last few years have been very flatly directed indeed.

Too many of the Marvel films and shows are being helmed by directors who aren't suited to this sort of big-budget action film-making and as a result, they don't do a terribly good job in the director's chair.

To name some recent examples, Jon Watts, Peyton Reed, Chloe Zhao and Anna Boden/Ryan Fleck haven't really been the right people to helm the Spider-Man trilogy, the Ant-Man films, Eternals and Captain Marvel, respectively, and all of those films were, at least to some extent, visually flat.

In fact, Watt's hit-or-miss direction was perhaps the single biggest flaw in the otherwise great Spider-Man: No Way Home, while the less said about the terrible directing in some of the Disney+ shows (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in particular), the better.

To be fair to Marvel though, many directors (including Thor 2's director Alan Taylor) haven't exactly been shy about dissing the franchise, so maybe the pool of potential directors is smaller than it looks.
