13 Huge Movies That Black Panther Destroyed At The Box Office
4. The Fate Of The Furious
Box Office: $1.236 billion.
The Fast and the Furious franchise is a seemingly unstoppable box office behemoth, with the last four entries smartly repurposing the series into a broader, more internationally-minded action heist franchise, ironically veering increasingly close to superhero territory with the death-defying feats of its central heroes.
While last year's eighth movie, The Fate of the Furious, didn't reach Furious 7's flabbergasting $1.516 billion worldwide take, it's impossible to ignore the boost Paul Walker's tragic death gave that movie, and there's no world where a "mere" $1.236 billion payday is anything but a fantastic result.
These films have their formula down pat at this point, perfectly exploiting a charming, racially diverse cast of characters in a simple, globe-trotting narrative with insane, cartoonish action.
And even still, Black Panther has out-grossed it by almost exactly $100 million to date. Given how hard the Fast and Furious movies pander to just about every possible demographic going, toppling it is no mean feat.
