13 Incredible Performances By Otherwise Terrible Actors

3. Keanu Reeves - John Wick

Though he's had a fairly broad range of roles over his career, it would be fair to say that Keanu Reeves is a limited actor. Why else would he have approached playing characters as diverse as Jonathan Harker, John Constantine and Neo in the exact same way? It's not exactly his fault, though: he's an actor generally hired for who he is rather than what he does.

In other words, he's managed to be a star without being particularly great. Charisma, after all, goes a long way.

But by the time he came to play John Wick in 2014 - his Liam Neeson moment, as it were - he put everything he'd learned up to that point about suppressing his inner Ted Logan together to offer a minimalist, intense performance. His John is a sullen, terrifying force of nature, marked by his slight alienness (the same thing that made Reeves so appealing for sci-fi roles previously), and it's a towering performance from an actor showing exactly the right sort of restraint.
