13 Major Revelations And Hints From The Ant-Man Trailer

12. Hank Pym (With Beard)

Pym plays the villain's traditional role in the trailer: he gets the prestigious opening voice over, it's in his terms that the state of the universe is addressed and it is he who packages up all of the key themes in one speech - daughters, family, saving the world, second chances... So far, so day time superhero movie. A surprising amount has been said of the fact that Michael Douglas was to wear a beard for his version of Pym: inevitably when the drip of information is so limited, people will jump on anything. But beyond mere aesthetics, the presence of his beard could be a hint at the world-threatening events that the trailer alludes to. Pym has worn a beard at several times in the Marvel comics universe, and the most notable - and perhaps most pertinent (with adaptation at least) was during the Legacy Virus arc, that saw a plague wipe out mutants and non-mutants alike, after a terrorist attack. Obviously having mutants involved isn't a possibility, but it could be that a form of Legacy exists in this universe, and could be what Pym developed by accident when experimenting with his shrinking gas - it may even be what killed his wife (something that has been hinted at strongly). Could that be why he needs Lang to help?
