13 Most Pretentious Movies Of All Time

Honestly, this list could've contained any number of Lars Von Trier movies. From his foray into Dogme 95 with The Idiots, to Melancholia, Nymphomaniac, and his latest entry The House That jack Built. The guy revels in pretentiousness. Plus it doesn't help that he's just a bit a dirt bag, trashman of a human being in the first place. However, it obviously had to be Antichrist, because this movie really takes the cake.

This movie is absolutely vile from start to finish. Even for Von Trier, the violence throughout Antichrist is gratuitous, unnecessary and just plain gross. This includes self mutilation of the worst kind and, this one's for the guys, you know when you see someone getting kicked in the balls and you can somehow feel it? Yeah...keep that in mind.

Worst of all is the fact that so many people will laud this film as a deft allegory for depression. Sorry, but there's are plenty of beautiful films about the struggle of depression that doesn't force us to watch a dude get his nuts pummelled to mush, thanks.

Johnny sat by the fire, idly swirling his brandy, flicking through the pages of War and Peace, wondering whether it was pretentious to write his bio in the third person.
