13 Movie Sequels That Shouldn't Have Been Made

9. Blues Brothers 2000

Die Hard 4
Universal Pictures

The only silver lining that comes from Blues Brothers 2000 is that it's the kind of film you forget about as soon as it's over. Simply put, without John Belushi, this film sinks big time.

Sure, there are some interesting musical numbers and brief moments of effective comedy (Aretha Franklin's role is very funny and a nice nod to the first film), but the whole thing feels kind of forced and pointless. Even with John Goodman, one of Hollywood's best supporting stars, the void left by Belushi is too big to fix.

On top of this, the film suffers from a clear sense of confusion and a lack of originality. Of course, this can be said about all sequels, as their primary function is to capture the essence of what came before, but with Blues Brothers 2000 the journey feels like a bleak re-hash of the original, only much less fun and surprising.

The car chases and ridiculously fun effects were unlikely to top the original, let's be honest, but for the most part it doesn't even seem to be trying.

Overall, if you do watch this film, separate it from the first film and focus on the music, because that's the only thing worth you're time. On second thought, just buy the soundtrack.

Aidan Whatman hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
