13 Movie Sequels That Shouldn't Have Been Made

7. The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor

Die Hard 4
Universal Pictures

The first two films in this franchise were good; the first was actually pretty great. Full of strong visuals, action sequences, historical themes and likeable characters, The Mummy and The Mummy Returns were both fun, engaging, if slightly predictable action-horror flicks. Rachel Weisz was the best part of them both, and when she refused to return for the third film, they really should have scrapped the whole thing.

Taking the formula applied to the first two, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor takes audiences away from the legends and mystery of Ancient Egypt and drops them in China to face...well, the Dragon Emperor. And whilst it's always fun to see Jet Li in a film, he is painfully underused here and the whole thing seems like a forced attempt to make some money.

Yes, the action is still entertaining, and John Hannah is still a major, funny highlight, but the introduction of yetis, Mario Bella as Weisz's Evelyn (tough shoes to fill), and some weak CGI make this a film perhaps best left in the office.

It's a good, fun action flick in its own right, perfect for a night when you can't commit to anything on TV and think you might fall asleep on the couch, but if you want to see Brendan Fraser fighting mummies, you're best to stick with the first films.

Aidan Whatman hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
