13 Movie Sequels That Shouldn't Have Been Made

6. Ocean's Thirteen

Die Hard 4
Warner Bros

This is the controversial pick of the list, but hold off your anger. Whilst much of this film is pretty strong - George Clooney is okay and Steven Soderbergh's direction is as playful and well crafted as always - there is just a few things missing that keep it from being as good as Ocean's Eleven or Twelve.

Ocean's Twelve wasn't as strong as Ocean's Eleven, but it was still a strong heist caper full of some fun comedy, tightly filmed action and colourful settings. Ocean's Thirteen has all of this, but is lacking the one thing that made the first two so good: character.

Ocean's Thirteen completely fails its characters. There's no growth, no real excitement, and none of them are massively fun to watch. They're just sort of there, plot devices to move the story along without giving them any sort of engaging arc.

The absence of both Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta-Jones, whose roles could have been detrimental in giving the rest of cast some emotional weight to work with, is a big issue, and Andy Garcia seems lazily written in to compensate for the change of antagonist, played by an underused Al Pacino.

All of this, mixed with some poor dialogue and a mostly rushed plot, makes Ocean's Thirteen an underwhelming sequel which seems like a forced attempt to relive the brilliance of the first movie. Stick to Ocean's Eleven, and you'll be much happier for it.

Aidan Whatman hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
