13 Movies Already Cancelled In 2019 (And Why)

What We Knew

Not so long ago, we were all getting lovely and excited about the strange news that David Fincher was making the long-awaited World War Z sequel. The original had been one of Brad Pitt's highest-grossing movies of all time and Paramount seemed to believe there was hope for success with a follow-up.

Sadly, the film has laboured in development hell since 2013, pretty much. JA Bayona was first hired to take it on but he dropped out to make Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (bullet dodged) and then Fincher signed on with a new script from Dennis Kelly in tow. The film even entered pre-production recently, giving us all hope it was actually happening.

And then it was killed out of nowhere.

Why It Was Cancelled & The Future

After the first movie went over budget and required extensive reshoots, Paramount were obviously concerned about the costs of a sequel and word is that it was cancelled because of budgetary issues.

They've got other, more expensive projects like Mission Impossible 7 and 8 in the works now and they're both bigger bankers than a World War Z sequel.

It could still happen, of course, but it would require some serious budgeting and you have to think that Fincher wouldn't be involved by then.
