Nominations: This one's a massive question mark, simply because the Star Wars franchise is so maddeningly inconsistent, but it's possible that even if Episode VII isn't that great, several generations worth of sentiment will see it garner nominations from even the notoriously old, white male demographic of the Academy. They were all kids once, right? Unless it sucks, count on Best Picture, Costume Design, Makeup & Hairstyling, Original Score (assuming it's not disqualified for being too derivative of previous Star Wars scores), Production Design, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Visual Effects. 8 nominations. What It Could Win: Pretty much everything here is going to face enormously stiff competition and probably fall by the wayside, but it's certainly possible that it'll destroy the crafts categories, considering it's releasing so close to the Oscars compared to, say, Mad Max. Don't be shocked if it steals away Sound Editing and Sound Mixing. What It Will Win: Going by the trailers shown off so far, the crisp, splendid visual effects seem like a guarantee. For a Star Wars movie, much like Inside Out, the nominations will very much equate to the win. But in terms of quantifiable awards, 1 win.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
