13 Movies With Hilariously Inappropriate Product Placement

3. McDonalds - Mac & Me

Product Placement: Mac and Me was a terrible attempt to cash-in on the success of E.T. and deliver yet another in a long line of family-friendly movies featuring cool aliens. Unfortunately, Mac and Me is best remembered for its infamous scene set inside a McDonald's during a birthday party, a weirdly impromptu dance number that's at once incredibly offputting and outrageously funny. If this scene, which also features a Ronald McDonald cameo, wasn't enough, the film's also rife with not-so-subtle name-dropping of McDonald's menu items (the Big Mac, for instance). Also, remember that the titular alien is called Mac. What else needs to be said? Why It's Inappropriate: In a post-Super Size Me world, advertising fast food directly to children is heavily frowned upon, because it's seen as contributing to the obesity epidemic worldwide. Back in 1988, though, over 15 years before Morgan Spurlock's shock doc debuted, nobody gave a toss about this, hence why such a blatant and obnoxiously heavy-handed advertisement for the artery-clogging food stuff could be shoved into a children's film. Still, the joke was on Orion Pictures, because the film was a total financial bust. Not that McDonald's suffered.
