13 Movies That Made Being A Bad Guy Look Incredibly Cool

3. Goodfellas (1990)

Considered by many to be Scorsese's finest film, Goodfellas helped cement the director as the master of the mob movie. Sociologists have claimed that without crime, Martin Scorsese would be out of a job, and his films do nothing but glorify the unlawful and immoral. While we do agree with this notion, we can't agree that it's such a bad thing. Although Goodfellas is based on real events, it takes certain liberties and is conceived as a form of entertainment. What critics fail to realise is that Scorsese does not glorify crime, he merely presents it through the eyes of his protagonists - who just so happen to enjoy it. We cannot help but love the trio of Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro and in particular, Joe Pesci. They ooze panache and cockiness, committing crime after crime with casual whimsy. One scene that stands out is the 'you think I'm funny?' scene. We know these characters are the bad guys, but even when they're smashing glasses over people's heads and brandishing their gun for all to see, we can't help but think they're the coolest guys onscreen - something De Niro and Pesci carried over to their next endeavour, Casino.

I love all things imaginative, from the page to the screen, and nurture a soft spot for Donald Sutherland and Daniel Bryan.
