13 Movies So Awful You Walked Out Of The Cinema
6. Movie 43
Even years later, Movie 43 feels like a terrible joke told at the expense of everyone involved - as if Peter Farrelly and Relativity Media decided to take vengeance on everyone in the industry who had even remotely wronged them over the years all at once.
It is quite remarkable how unfunny it is - almost to the point of provocation - and quite how the football team of directors responsible for its anthology comedy skits got their stars to willingly go along with it is unthinkable. Fame is a hell of a drug.
The problem with Movie 43 was that it looked like it should have been good fun: it was being directed by the guy behind There's Something About Mary (and also, partly, James Gunn, Elizabeth Banks, Bob Odenkirk and Brett Ratner) and it had a stunning cast who all seemed willing to poke fun at themselves. The reality is that it's an offensive circus sideshow of deeply mirthless garbage whose only reward for those who didn't walk out was a symbolic endurance medal.
