13 Movies So Awful You Walked Out Of The Cinema

5. Catwoman

Back when Tim Burton was still making Batman movies, he had a plan - along with Warner Bros, in fact - to release a spin-off starring Michelle Pfeiffer, whose Catwoman had been a stand-out part of the wholly excellent Batman Returns. The script was turned in on the day Batman Forever was released, which proved to be something of a mistake, given how wildly different Burton's and Joel Schumacher's Batman visions were, and the film slowly crumbled away in development hell.

But then after flirtations with casting Ashley Judd and Nicole Kidman, Warner Bros finally came through, casting Oscar winner Halle Berry as the new Catwoman. This would definitely not be a disaster.

Sadly, the idea of a good Catwoman movie was sold entirely on what Pfeiffer and Burton had created in Batman Returns, and what Berry's version delivered was unrecognisable to fans. Not only was it an entirely different character, but she was in a film whose script - though written by an astonishing number of people - felt like an accident. A particularly boring accident, at that.

Inevitably, it failed to make back its budget and even some of those unlucky to have bought tickets didn't make it to the end credits.
