13 Movies That Depressingly Predicted The Future

4. Elective Plastic Surgery - Back To The Future Part II

In the hit time travel sequel, Doc (Christopher Lloyd) arrives from the future and brings Marty (Michael J. Fox) back with him to 2015.

Shortly after landing, Doc begins peeling away a facial disguise, explaining he wore it so Marty would recognise him despite the elective plastic surgery he's had done. He says, "I went to a rejuvenation clinic and got an all-natural overhaul. They took out some wrinkles, did a hair repair, change of blood, and added 30-40 years to my life. They also replaced my spleen and colon."

The hilarious irony of course is that Doc basically looks the same whether he's wearing the disguise or not, but screenwriter Bob Gale probably couldn't have expected just how on-the-money his prediction for the uptick in non-essential plastic surgery has become in the near-30 years since the movie's release.

Yes, plastic surgery was around long before the movie hit screens, but the explosion of companies offering competitive, affordable surgery for the average Joe in the last decade-or-so makes the movie's vision of elective blood transfusions and life extension feel not so far away.
