13 Movies That Depressingly Predicted The Future

8. Detroit's Collapse - Robocop

Videodrome Saw
Orion Pictures

While younger viewers might simply appreciate Robocop as an extremely bada**, ultra-violent action flick about a man-robot hybrid, its vision of Detroit as a destitute, crime-riddled and increasingly gentrified dystopia feels chillingly on-point today. The city's hugely under-funded police department would probably kill for a private company like Robocop's OCP to swoop in and take over.

Still, on a national scale, mega-corporations much like OCP are hugely influential when it comes to lawmaking, dropping "donations" behind the scenes to bolster their interests in a not-so-subtle version of modern bribery.

Though the city hasn't yet sprung for a privatised police force as seen in the movie, never say never.
