13 Movies You Won't Believe Are Being Rebooted Already
4. Underworld
The Original: The vampire-werewolf Underworld franchise launched in 2003, and despite mostly negative reviews, was a considerable commercial success. By 2012, three sequels had followed (two starring sexy original lead Kate Beckinsale) to solid box office returns, if increasing critical apathy. Time Since The Last Movie: 2 years, 10 months The Reboot: In August, it was announced that the Underworld series would be getting a soft reboot of sorts with its fifth film, Underworld: Next Generation, starring Theo James' character from the previous film, David, without any involvement from Beckinsale. Though the director of the original two movies (and Beckinsale's husband) Len Wiseman claims that the actress may return for a sixth film, Beckinsale herself has considered it unlikely...presumably unless her roles start drying up (and let's face it, she's not exactly been in anything memorable recently). Without Beckinsale or a sexy PVC-clad protagonist to replace her (like the lovely Rhona Mitra in the third film), it's difficult to imagine Next Generation taking off at the box office, potentially leading the franchise to VOD oblivion.
