13 Movies You Won't Believe Are Being Rebooted Already
8. The Mummy
The Original: Easily the most prolifically-rebooted movie on this list, The Mummy began life as part of the Universal Horror stable from the 1930s to 1950s, before Hammer Horror took over from the late 50s to early 70s, and then Universal retooled it as 1999's Brendan Fraser-starring action adventure franchise, leading to two hugely successful (if critically derided) sequels. Following 2008's Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, though, word went quiet on a fourth film despite the cast apparently being enthusiastic about it. Time Since The Last Movie: 6 years, 3 months The Reboot: After developing various reboot projects over the last two years, Universal have finally settled on reintroducing The Mummy as part of their new Universal Monsters franchise (which started with Dracula Untold last month), with Star Trek, Transformers and Amazing Spider-Man writer Alex Kurtzman directing a script from Billy Ray (Flightplan, Captain Phillips) and Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) for a June 2016 release date. Seriously, Brendan Fraser could really use the work and he hasn't aged horribly: why hasn't a fourth film just been made instead?
