The myth that people only use ten percent of their brains have been floating around for a long time now, and the concept finally reached the mainstream with Bradley Cooper star vehicle Limitless. It’s total guff, however, and the prospect of an action movie starring Scarlett Johansson using the exact same setup didn’t sound appealing.

Why You Wanted To Hate It: For a movie about someone becoming smart, it looked really f***ing dumb. It was another glossy euro-thriller from Luc Besson, with Johansson firing guns while figuring out the mysteries of the universe.

The Reasons You Couldn’t: The movie is totally aware of how dumb the idea is, but has fun exploring it nonetheless. There’s a definite progression as the movie starts off like a standard action film, before turning absolutely nuts. Johansson is so good she holds the whole thing together, and it even smuggles some interesting concepts in with the wackiness.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
