13 Overlooked Films From Famous Directors
2. Edgar Wright - Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
Edgar Wright is the nerd's nerd and the ultimate geek's filmmaker. His films are warm, awkward, fun and are like old friends who get you through low moods.
The first time he ventured away from Simon Pegg and Nick Frost was this delightfully weird and zany comedy which plays out like an ingenious combination of video games and comic books. Even though it's out of Wright's comfort zone, this is still every bit as delightful as Edgar Wright's Cornetto Trilogy (and so, so much better than Baby Driver).
This movie is a reminder of both of Wright's key strengths: his visual comedy and his writing. This film, particularly in its video game-style battles, is visually stunning and brilliantly inventive so it's a great action film as well as a comedy. Fear not though; it's also hilarious.
Best of all, it manages to be a warm, heartfelt and human movie that is just as endearing as the Cornetto films are. This is a truly delightful film and one that can be enjoyed even if you don't like video games or comic books. It's a huge shame that this is Wright's least-remembered film and was also a box-office bomb.
