13 Overlooked Films From Famous Directors

11. David Fincher - The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Inherent Vice
Sony

David Fincher is, at this time, the closest thing we have to an heir to Kubrick. Few would deny he's one of the best directors in the business and his films are generally acclaimed. Thinking of his output in this decade so far, he's made three films and while The Social Network and Gone Girl did very well, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is never talked about.

The film wasn't particularly successful commercially and people totally missed out on a highly enjoyable thriller. It's the rare dark film that is simultaneously harrowing and entertaining, while it's boosted up further by FIncher's fantastic direction and winning performances from its cast.

The most sad thing about this is that people generally say the Swedish version is superior... despite the American version being better in literally every way. The Swedish version is nothing more than a glorified TV film and it's pretty tedious. Fincher's version is better-directed, better-acted, better-written, more disturbing and far more entertaining.

Fincher's other crime thrillers such as Gone Girl, Seven and Zodiac all received masses of acclaim and this is just as stylish and gripping as those so where's the love for this one?
