Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson bring their popular stage play to the big screen in what is looking to be the British horror movie of the year. Fans of the play will be aware of the setup – the shrewd Professor Phillip Goodman is tasked with investigating three unique paranormal events – but on the big screen Nyman and Dyson have a fresh opportunity to bolster the scares in these tales of haunted factories, roads and hospitals.

In the central role Martin Freeman has already impressed the crowds at last year’s London Film Festival, adding a touch of Holmes to his well-oiled Watson routine, plus none other than Paul Whitehouse looks set to impress as terrified security guard, Tony Matthews.

Judging by the trailer alone, the film looks set to throw jump scares at us in abundance, while at the same time sticking to the play’s dreamy subtext. If successful, this could well be the home-grown horror franchise this country has been hankering for.
