The year's big haunted house event flick comes in the form of this period chiller, an adaptation of Sarah Waters’s Booker Prize-nommed novel.

Set in the late 1940s, the plot follows a doctor (Domhnall Gleeson, taking a break from butting heads with Kylo) who is tasked with tending to a patient at the uber creepy Hundreds Hall. Soon enough, though, secrets about the family that reside in said abode start to be revealed and - surprise! - there is a supernatuaral force at work.

Waters’s novel is celebrated for bringing together elements of Edgar Allen Poe, Shirley Jackson as well as Daphne du Maurier and giving the bump in the night sub-genre a modern twist. Director Lenny Abrahamson scored a hit with 2015’s Oscar-nabbing The Room so hopes are high that we’ll have another The Woman In Black on our hands here.
