13 Predictions For Next Summer's Biggest Movies
12. Toy Story 4 Is The Worst-Reviewed Toy Story Movie
Prediction: Considering that the first three Toy Story movies hold Rotten Tomatoes scores of 100%, 100% and 99% respectively (each with average scores of 8.6 or more), it would be virtually unheard of if Pixar could strike masterful gold four movies in a row.
Given that a lot of fans felt that Toy Story 3 was the perfect finale to the franchise, many are simply expecting Toy Story 4 to be a decent, perhaps even great movie, albeit one that falls short of its predecessors' glory.
That's to say nothing of the movie's noted production issues - with original writers Rashida Jones and Will McCormack bailing amid creative issues and harassment accusations against John Lasseter - which don't exactly suggest a suitable working environment for another home run.
It's easy to imagine it still scoring a solid 85-90% on the Tomatometer, though the average score could very well end up in the decidedly lower 7.0-7.5 zone, which wouldn't really be good enough for this franchise.
Why It Might Not Happen: They've already made two shockingly brilliant sequels and are clearly taking their time getting this movie done, having pushed it back numerous times rather than risk rushing it out. Perhaps we're all going to be pleasantly surprised next June (but probably not).
