13 Supporting Movie Characters You Loved More Than The Hero
10. Jay & Silent Bob - Clerks
When you think of stoner comedy characters, even if you immediately turn to Cheech and Chong and Harold And Kumar first, there's a good chance that Jay and Silent Bob - the loser drug dealers from Kevin Smith's View Askew film universe - will be high up the list too.
They were far more appealing than nihilistic-for-fashion Dante and upstart douchebag Randal (though they had their roguish charms), even despite being on screen for considerably less time. Sure, they were no-hopers, but their appeal shone so brightly because they completely no-sold that fact. They were the kings of their community and peddling weed outside the Quick Stop made them entrepreneurs.
Jason Mewes' performance in particular channelled the familiar dick-swinging stoner party boys anyone who'd come close to that community would have met and invented his own not-quite-vocabulary. And they were so popular they've been back a fair few times since.
