13 Supporting Movie Characters You Loved More Than The Hero

6. Debbie & Pete - Knocked Up

Seth Rogen's Ben Stone is one of the great schlub heroes in movie history, but Katherine Heigl's is a far more problematic character (in the actress' own assessment, she's a total bitch) and neither is the best character in Knocked Up. In fact, they're not even the best couple.

That accolade goes to Paul Rudd's Pete and Leslie Mann's Debbie, who were so successful that Universal made a sequel starring them that didn't even include Rogen and Heigl.

Mann's firebrand Debbie is on the verge of neurosis and an identity issue brought about by her age and Pete's affectionate man-child shtick. And Pete is Paul rudd at his most effervesently charming: he's a bit of a loser (who chooses to "cheat" on his wife with a Fantasy Football League, but he's harmless and he has that Tom Hanks appeal that makes him incredibly hard not to love. Even when he's being a bit of a dick.
