Duncan Jones' long-awaited Netflix thriller has a loyal band of defenders who adulate it as an unsung, misunderstood masterpiece, and apparently some people have actually met these folk in real life.

It was hard to deny that Jones' long-gestating pet project was a tonal and creative bust when it hit laptop screens the world over earlier this year, and while it might not be a cult hit in the vein of Blade Runner, it's still easy to see why it has a certain allure to some.

If you can overlook the weirdly generic narrative through-line and some very questionable subplots - namely a totally unnecessary divergence into child abuse - there are some eye-wateringly good visuals here, not to mention some intriguing performances, from Paul Rudd in particular.

It's an interesting trainwreck of a movie, effectively, combining a ton of incongruent elements into a whole that certainly sticks in the mind and sporadically entertains, even if it spectacularly falters while considered under its original intent.
