The script is bad, but the rest of the film is absolutely rock solid.

Although he directed the turkey that is The Book of Henry, Colin Trevorrow did a very fine job with this one. The CGI is a bit inconsistent, but the direction and cinematography are strong and Trevorrow does a fabulous job of replicating the sense of wonder and awe that Spielberg always puts into his blockbusters. Perhaps firing him from Star Wars Episode IX wasn't such a great idea?

As an action film, this is suspenseful, well-paced and visually stunning, while the park itself is wonderful to behold. It also benefits from retaining the original music and has a pleasingly gritty side to it as well. This definitely isn't the bad film some people say it is, even if it is often gratingly stupid.

Just keep your expectations grounded, switch your brain off, maybe even bring a few cans along and you'll have a great time.
