3. Why Was A Prologue Added To The Story? - Batman: The Killing Joke

Batman The Killing Joke Barbara Sex
Warner Bros.

The Question: The long-awaited animated adaptation of Alan Moore's The Killing Joke added a 30-minute prologue written specifically for the film, but considering how beloved the source material is and how terrible that prologue was, why did they even bother?

The Likely Answer: The only answer that makes sense is Warner Bros. didn't feel that a 50-minute Killing Joke film was substantial enough, and wanted to give fans a little more bang for their buck.

Well, there certainly was "bang" in the sense that Batgirl and Batman have a wildly unnecessary sex scene, but for the most part the hardcore fans are just going to want to skip past that first half-hour to get to the legit Killing Joke story.
