13 Upcoming Comic Book Movies That Could Beat Batman V Superman

4. The Sandman

Neil Gaiman's much-loved graphic novel follows Dream, a physical personification of dreams as he seeks to rebuild his kingdom after being imprisoned for 70 years. It's an absolutely mental novel and has been deemed unfilmable by many, but various attempts have been made for almost 20 years. Though there's no concrete release date yet, David S. Goyer is producing alongside Gaiman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the latter of whom is widely expected to play the protagonist. It's an extremely literate, rich project if it can be pulled off: it melds horror and fantasy in a unique way, and though it'll be a challenge to bring to the screen, if it achieves even just a pinch of its potential, it'll likely make BvS seem like generic mulch. Of course, that's all contingent on the movie actually getting made, but considering the prominent figures attached to producing and a script that New Line Cinema are reportedly in love with, hopefully production will ramp up soon.
