11. Dark Universe

True to its title, this 2011-2015 comic book series Justice League Dark was an alternate Justice League for DC's darker and more supernatural characters. Guillermo del Toro was involved with the project for almost three years, writing a script which featured the likes of Constantine, Swamp Thing, Madame Xanadu, Deadman and Zatanna as part of the core group. Though it's disappointing that del Toro stepped away from directing it and is no longer attached in any creative aspect, his screenplay is reportedly superb, and Warner are eager to press forward with getting it made sometime this year. Why could it best BvS? Simply, it will take the Justice League name to grim and weird places that it really can't with the likes of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman attached. If del Toro's script manages to juggle its tones well, this could be DC's Guardians of the Galaxy...but with a ton more gallows humour and less goofiness.
