13 Upcoming Comic Book Movies That Could Beat Batman V Superman

10. Black Panther

We'll get our first proper glimpse at Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War, ahead of the character's own solo movie landing on February 16, 2018. Though it seems unlikely that the film's going to be destined for the breakout success of something like Guardians (it's much more likely to do Ant-Man figures at the box office), it does have two secret weapons behind it: terrific actor Chadwick Boseman as the title character, and Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, Creed) serving as director. Coogler has proven himself smart at sniffing out worthy projects to date, and there are likely few other directors who could juggle the inherent cultural aspects of the character alongside scintillating action (as he proved so well in Creed). Black Panther as a character has such a rich history, and considering that he was the first mainstream black superhero, he should bring a pretty distinctive flavour to the MCU if pulled off right. There's certainly question marks surrounding inexperienced screenwriter Joe Robert Cole penning the script, but his pitch must really have impressed Marvel Studios...
